Prof. Alessandro De Giacomo
Prof. Alessandro De Giacomo, PhD, is a Full Professor of General Chemistry, Quantum Chemistry, and Plasma Chemistry at the University of Bari, Italy; an Associate Researcher at the Institute of Photonics and Nanotechnology of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR-IFN); an Affiliate Professor in the Department of Physics and Applied Physics at the University of Massachusetts Lowell; and a permanent staff member of an inter-university research consortium devoted to basic research and the development of innovative high-tech processes across several fields of chemistry.
His research focuses on fundamental studies of laser-induced plasmas and their applications, ranging from materials science to analytical chemistry. His research activities include laser spectroscopy, nanoparticle (NP) and carbon nanostructure synthesis by pulsed laser ablation in liquids (PLAL), and laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), among others. He is the inventor of Nanoparticle-Enhanced Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (NELIBS) and a pioneer in the use of LIBS for quantitative analysis during flight using drones.
Prof. De Giacomo is an active member of several scientific committees for international conferences and serves on the editorial boards of several international journals. He is also a reviewer for several funding agencies in Europe, North America, and Asia. Since 2017, he has served as the Editor-in-Chief of Spectrochimica Acta Part B: Atomic Spectroscopy, an Elsevier journal.
